چکیده

The Double Chooz reactor neutrino experiment will be the next detector to search for a non vanishing θ13 mixing angle with unprecedented sensitivity, which might open the way to unveiling CP violation in the leptonic sector. The measurement of this angle will be based on a precise comparison of the antineutrino spectrum at two identical detectors located at different distances from the Chooz nuclear reactor cores in France. Double Chooz is particularly attractive because of its capability to measure sin(2θ13) to 3σ significance if sin(2θ13) > 0.05 or to exclude sin(2θ13) down to 0.03 at 90% C.L. for ∆m = 2.5 × 10 eV in three years of data taking with both detectors. The installation of the far detector started in May 2008 and the first neutrino results are expected in 2009. The advantages of reactor neutrino experiments to measure the θ13 mixing angle are described in this article and in particular, the design, current status and expected performance of the Double Chooz detector.

The Double Chooz Experiment

There is broad consensus in the worldwide physics community as to the need for a new reactor-neutrino experiment to measure or limit the neutrino mixing angle θ13. The Double Chooz Experiment, planned for operation in the years 2008−2011, will search for values of sin2 2θ13 down to ≈0.03. This will be the first new information on θ13 in over a decade and will cover most of the remaining paramet...

Creating A Public Data Access Webpage for Double Chooz

This paper describes the creation of a public data access webpage that will allow people not affiliated with the Double Chooz experiment to understand exactly how the value of θ13 was measured by the experiment. Double Chooz is a a two detector neutrino experiment based in Chooz, France that has run since 2011. In this paper, I go into the background of neutrinos and the math behind them. I the...

New Reactor Neutrino Experiments besides Double-CHOOZ

The mixing angle θ13 is the last mixing angle to be measured. A non-zero value of θ13 is key to the possibility of measuring CP violation in future long-baseline accelerator experiments. The best limit on θ13 comes from the reactor experiment CHOOZ.[1] It has recently been recognized that the best possibility for rapidly measuring a non-zero value of the parameter θ13 comes from a new reactor e...

Constraints of mixing angles from neutrino oscillation experiments and neutrinoless double beta decay

From the analyses of the recent data of neutrino oscillation experiments (especially the CHOOZ and the Super KAMIOKANDE experiments), we discuss how these data affect the neutrinoless double beta decay ((ββ)0ν ) rate and vice versa assuming that neutrinos are Majorana particles. For the case that m1 ∼ m2 ≪ m3 (mi are neutrino masses), we obtain, from the data of the CHOOZ and Super KAMIOKANDE, ...

Review of Reactor Neutrino Oscillation Experiments

In this document we will review the current status of reactor neutrino oscillation experiments and present their physics potentials for measuring the θ13 neutrino mixing angle. The neutrino mixing angle θ13 is currently a high-priority topic in the field of neutrino physics. There are currently three different reactor neutrino experiments, Double Chooz, Daya Bay and Reno and a few accelerator n...
